Resveratrol - Blood Sugar Regulation and Insulin Sensitivity
November 2, 2020 Puzzle Piece
Last week we wrote about DAK1K2 in blood sugar regulation. If you missed that Puzzle Piece, please review the October 26, 2020 edition. This week we will expand options and insights.
The key to mitigating, controlling, and even reversing type 2 diabetes is moderating blood sugar levels and maintaining excellent insulin sensitivity. Your diabetic patients may know this, but they may not know how to nutritionally help themselves.
Besides a healthy diet and exercise, one of the best nutrients they can supplement with is resveratrol. Not only has it been proven to be good for diabetes, it is also good for the heart and one of the best antioxidants known.
Diabetes and Your Heart
Over time, high blood glucose from diabetes can damage your blood vessels and the nerves that control your heart and blood vessels. The longer you have diabetes, the higher the chances you will develop heart, as well as artery disease.
Data from the National Heart Association from 2012 shows 65% of people with diabetes will die from some sort of heart disease or stroke. Heart disease is the number one cause of death among people with type 2 diabetes. In fact, it is the number one cause of death in the United States.
Resveratrol is a great nutrient for heart health. Countless studies have shown it’s beneficial in treating a variety of issues surrounding heart disease and heart failure. Resveratrol possesses potent antioxidant properties and has been shown to decrease low-density lipoprotein–cholesterol oxidation and platelet aggregation.
Better still, increasing evidence shows that resveratrol helps with diabetes, too. It has been shown to help with blood glucose and insulin sensitivity, making resveratrol an extreemly powerful nutrient for your heart and diabetes.
Resveratrol and Blood Sugar
Resveratrol is a natural compound that is found in more than 70 plant species, including nuts, grapes, pine trees, and various berries. Early studies have shown that resveratrol has antioxidant, anticancer, antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial effects.
The regular consumption of resveratrol has been known to improve glucose homeostasis and reverse insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes. Meta-analysis showed that resveratrol significantly improved the fasting plasma glucose and insulin levels. Resveratrol supplementation may also improve fasting plasma glucose, HOMA-IR, and insulin in diabetic patients.
In a recent study, researchers randomly assigned 66 participants with diabetes to receive one gram of resveratrol or placebo daily for 45 days. Various outcome measures, including body weight, fasting blood glucose, insulin resistance, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels were evaluated before and after supplementation.
The researchers found that the participants in the resveratrol group had significantly lower blood pressure, blood glucose and insulin resistance. Additionally, high-density lipoprotein (HDL, or "good") cholesterol significantly increased.
Conversely, participants in the placebo group had moderately, but significantly, increased blood glucose and low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad") cholesterol levels. The authors concluded that resveratrol may have beneficially antidiabetic effects in people with diabetes.
Dr. Harris’s Essential Resveratrol
Now, while research touts the wonders of this molecule, there is the challenge of making it bioavailable. Optimal Health Systems has thoroughly helped Dr. Harris formulate the best resveratrol supplement you could ask for.
With the help of Doug Grant’s patented nutrients in the Opti-Blend delivery system,
Essential Resveratrol
is a highly bioavailable whole food form of resveratrol that has been shown to help manage blood glucose levels and insulin sensitivity.
The resveratrol in this formula is sourced from the root of Japanese knotweed and an alcohol-free red wine extract. Both sources have been researched in over 2,000 studies.
Dosing
Take two capsules daily.
