What Creates EMF Pollution?
It would not help much to close your eyelids. It would still affect you!
You can’t see it, because it isn’t light. It is manmade electromagnetic
radiation, often referred to as electrosmog, or EMF pollution.
You see, when this radiation “shines” on you, it actually shines through you,
much of it anyway. Some of it penetrates a few inches into your body.
And some of it passes right through you, bones and all!
So it’s not surprising that EMFs can affect every organ and every cell of your body.
Understanding Strong and Weak EMFs
The EMF from a weak radiation source close by can be stronger than the EMF from a powerful radiation source much further away.

People worry about EMF from high-tension electricity pylons 500 feet
(150 metres) away, but may not spare a thought for a clock/radio just 18
inches from their ear at night.
Which creates the stronger EMF near their head? Well, you can’t tell for
sure without a low-frequency EMF meter, but it’s probably the clock.
Most of the EMFs affecting your body right now are too weak to worry
about. But there may be a few stronger ones. The strongest EMF is
probably coming from something quite close to you – perhaps a computer,
digital phone or household appliance.
What Creates EMF Pollution?
Here are some of the major contributors to EMF pollution:
· cell or mobile phones
· digital phones and base stations
· computers and related equipment
· wireless gaming consoles and base stations
· wireless baby monitors and base stations
· electrical appliances (including TV’s)
· electronic equipment
· cell phone masts
· radio and TV transmitters
· microwave ovens
· house-wiring
· high and low-voltage power lines
· information networks
· cars, motor cycles, buses, trains and planes
· smart meters (electricity or gas meters which transmit radio signals).
How many of the items in this list have already affected you today?
Most of these sources generate radio-frequency EMF, but some (such as
house-wiring and power lines) produce low-frequency EMF. Both kinds are
dangerous to your health.
Is EMF Pollution Getting Worse?
The average level of EMF we experience every day is estimated at 50 times greater than our parents experienced at the same age.
And when today’s children reach our age, will they experience 50 times more EMF than we do now?
Practically every new invention adds something to electromagnetic
radiation pollution. Much of this EMF is pulsed digital radio-frequency
EMF from digital communications devices – probably the most dangerous
kind for your health.
And every additional cellphone in use adds more zing to the planet’s electrosmog!
So far we have over 3 billion of them, serviced by a network of 5 million cell towers (Scientific American).
It is hardly surprising that much of our planet is now filled with a cracking level of invisible electromagnetic pollution.
Is it fit for humans to live in? Probably not. And it may not be good for animals, birds or insects either.
Why Does Electromagnetic Radiation Affect You?
When an electromagnetic wave passes through your body, it induces an electric current inside you.
Your
body naturally uses electrical impulses for many purposes (e.g.
thinking, conveying sensory information, initiating muscular movement
and controlling heartbeats.)
Even the chemical processes which go on in our cells, blood, body
tissues and organs, which we don’t normally think of as being electrical
in nature, all rely on electric charges inside the body for their
proper function.
So an external EMF that creates electric currents within your body can, and does interfere with many biological processes.
Some of these biological effects can actually be harnessed for
beneficial uses such as relieving pain or healing bone tissue, so
electromagnetic radiation is not necessarily all bad.
But unfortunately, the radiation that penetrates our bodies every day,
is far from beneficial. Initially it may just cause unpleasant symptoms,
but unless action is taken to limit exposure, a more permanent health
effect may occur later.
Symptoms of Exposure to EMF Pollution
Here are some of the more common symptoms of excessive EMF exposure:
· Anxiety
· Concentration difficulties
· Depression
· Fatigue
· Headaches
· Memory impairment
· Nausea
· Palpitations
· Skin rashes
· Sleep disturbance
Of course, all of these symptoms can be caused by many things, not just EMF exposure.
But if you suffer from any of these symptoms, and you and your doctor do
not know why, wouldn’t it be sensible to assess your EMF exposure, and
reduce it if you can? (The main message of this website is that you can,
indeed, greatly reduce it.)
EMF pollution may cause these health effects
Symptoms due to EMF exposure generally get worse over time. After a long
period (usually several years or even decades of EMF exposure), disease
may become evident.
The most common health condition caused by EMF is electro-sensitivity
(a.k.a. Electro-Hyper-Sensitivity or EHS), which may already affect
three percent of our population (see Wikipedia).
But each of the following diseases has been associated with high levels of EMF pollution in scientific studies:
· Allergies
· Alzheimer’s Disease
· Autism
· Blood Pressure Abnormalities
· Brain Cancer
· Breast Cancer (male and female)
· Depression
· Electro-Hyper-Sensitivity (EHS)
· Fertility Impairment
· Headaches
· Heart Disease
· Hormonal Disruption
· Immune System Damage
· Leukemia (Adult and Child)
· Miscarriage
· Nervous System Damage
· Sleeping Disorders
· Sperm Abnormalities
· Stress Disorders
Yeah, it’s scarey.
How to Avoid being an EMF Pollution Victim
Remember, a strong EMF can be due to a weak radiation source near at
hand. Most of the EMF pollution in your home is probably coming from
something inside the house.
Take a look around you. What electrical equipment do you have in your
house? What electronic equipment do you have nearby, or on your person?
Are these devices having a subtle effect on you, or a family member?
If you know which is the strongest source of EMF in your environment, you can reduce your exposure by
· Switching it off, whenever possible
· Moving further away from it
· If it is a wireless device, replace it with a wired alternative.
Simple steps, right? But effective.
