October 26, 2015 Puzzle Piece

img1Are you doing everything you can to prevent the sleeping giant of cardiovascular disease that may be affecting you and your patients? The old adage of what you don’t know can’t hurt you does not apply here. Once I started using the AngioScan I was able to see that most of my patients were at risk. The beauty of this technology was that the findings were easy for the patient to see the results and the solution was easy to implement. This is an area the patients are aware of and most of them have a certain amount of fear about strokes and heart disease. They really appreciate your comprehensiveness in being able to screen them. What is being measured with the AngioScan is arterial stiffness, vascular age, stress index, pulse rate, pulse wave type, and oxygen saturation.

Contour pulse wave analysis is one of the major ways that was used in the 1800’s to evaluate cardiovascular health until the implementation of the stethoscope combined with the blood pressure cuff. What was sacrificed was ease for accuracy. The pulse wave analysis technology has made a resurgence and is much easier to use today. What we are looking at is something called pulsed wave velocity. When your heart contracts during systole it produces a pulse wave that travels to the periphery and is called the forward wave. When the pulse wave returns it is called the reflective wave. If the reflective wave returns too fast when the heart is in early systole, the heart is working against resistance during this phase and spending more time contracting and less time resting. When the heart is contracting it is unable to get its own blood supply. This sets the patient up for serious cardiovascular issues. The cause of the fast returning wave is vascular stiffness. This would show up on the AngioScan as an A pulse wave type. They may have normal vascular age which is the health of the medium and small vessels but the arterial stiffness reading could be worse than their age representing the big vessels and means that the Aorta is becoming stiffer.

One of the major studies today is the Café study and it is telling us that you don’t want to treat the brachial pressure but the central aortic pressure also known as the CASP. When patients were given the common blood pressure medication Beta Blockers they would lower brachial blood pressure but not central aortic blood pressure where it really counts.

Once you find the problems, the solutions are easy. Put the patient on Optimal Opti-Nitric, Optimal Fruit & Veggie Plus, Longevi-D and get them on the Bemer for extra support.  You can also improve the health of their arteries with very specific exercise. The specific exercise is called Kaatsu and we will be elaborating on this in future puzzle pieces and it will be available at Homecoming 2016 for you to experience. This exercise will increase endothelial Nitric Oxide, as does Opti-Nitric.  This combination is truly ANTI-AGING.

What we have shared with you is a cutting edge evaluation and some simple solutions that can reverse the findings on the AngioScan. To read more about pulse wave velocity you can read the American Heart Association recommendations and standardizing vascular research on arterial stiffness. You can also watch the video on www.hrvhq.com.  Once on the website, click on the AngioScan picture on the Home page and watch the video. Below we can show you some examples of the screens. My own personal goal is to have a higher percentage of the B and C type wave and less percentage of A. Below is a good description of the different wave types.

This is how the Pulse Curve Type screen shows up on the AngioScan.  This is hard to find in older adults.  By following the protocols mentioned above, we can improve the pulse curve type to a healthier state.

This person is 54 years old but their small and medium sized vessels are more like a 67 year old.

To make sure you understand we will have the AngioScan available at Homecoming 2016 to test anyone who would like to know the state of their vascular health.  For those who want to do a comparison after taking the Optimal Opti-Nitric, Optimal Fruit & Veggie Plus, Longevi-D and get on the Bemer as well, we can do a post study.  We will be going through this information in a more comprehensive way at the webinar on November 3, 2015 at 6pm Pacific and at Homecoming.

See you at the upcoming webinars and at Homecoming 2016!
