Donating blood just Once Can Save 3 Lives, Including Our Own
Giving
blood is an act of kindness for others and it could even help save your
life, too in the knowledge gained and by reducing the thickness that
can exist.
1. You Should Get a Blood Health Checkup at least every 6 months
Call OHS for the details on how to order blood tests for yourself and your patients. 800-890-4547
The report received back from OHS is insightful and instructive for the
doctor and patients. It gives the needed nutritional recommendations for
your convenience.
2. You Support Your Heart
A shocking discovery was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology:
Donating blood just once a year can reduce the risk of a heart attack by up to 88%.
Periodic drawing the blood helps to reduce the thickness of
your blood, which reduces the friction in the blood vessels and supports
healthy blood pressure. It also lowers high ferritin levels if they
exist.
3. You Boost Your Metabolism
Did you know you burn over 600 calories every time you donate a pint of blood?4
That’s equivalent to walking more than 8 miles!
4. You Boost Your Mood
If you’ve ever done “volunteer work,” you’ll know helping others feels good.
Research shows volunteering promotes the release of “endorphins” in your brain like serotonin, oxytocin, and dopamine.
These natural chemicals help lower stress, boost self-esteem, and lead to a brighter, happier outlook.
If you’d like to play your part, the American Red Cross makes it pretty
easy for any healthy adult to give blood and help those in need.
800-733-2767 is their phone number.
Just contact your local Red Cross center and schedule a quick
appointment. I do it every two to three months. You have to wait at
least 56 days between donations.
